The Emma Stewart Scholarship

About Emma

The Willow School was honored to have an incredibly gifted young lady in our Middles class last year. She was eloquent, energetic, fun-loving and kind. Emma was atypical of 3rd graders, particuarly in her Language Arts skills. Her reading was at the high school level as were her vocabulary skills. She was an avid Harry Potter fan and had a significant library of her own filled with beautiful hardcover novels. She knew countless SAT prep vocabulary words and relished finding words her teacher did not know. In addition to her Language Arts skills, she was a talented artist, scientist and mathematician. During the school day, she was often found eagerly helping her fellow classmates.

Emma was diagnosed with Leukemia in the spring of 2011. She bravely fought this disease and continued to visit school often throughout the spring and fall, bringing smiles and love with her every time.

Emma’s struggle against Leukemia ended in December. She is remembered by her loving parents, Mike and Ava Stewart, her aunts, uncles and cousins, her many friends of all ages, and her extended family here at The Willow School.

In Emma’s honor and memory, Willow is launching a scholarship in her name. This scholarship will provide funds for a gifted student, much like Emma herself, to attend our school. Qualified applicants will be from a low-income family and demonstrate a passion for learning. The first recipient will be awarded the scholarship for the upcoming school year, 2012-2013.
