Susan Smith

Susan Smith resides in Vero Beach, Florida, with her husband Blake; their son Blake Jr. is a sophomore at the University of North Florida. Susan grew up and attended high school in Vero Beach. She earned BSN and MN degrees from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and a PhD in Nursing with a focus in community health from Georgia State University in Atlanta. Susan worked in healthcare for 28 years, was an Associate Professor at Emory University, and is currently an Editorial Director for Medscape from WebMD.

Gina Battle

Gina Battle has lived in Vero Beach since 1999. Before moving to Vero Beach she attended New York University and worked for HBO in New York City. Gina has been involved in numerous successful business ventures and currently is the owner of the premier chocolate shop in Vero Beach named, “Faith, Hope and Chocolate”. Gina has two children in the Willow School, and has served on the Board since 2006.

Gwen Landers

Gwen has been involved in accounting since the mid 1970s and in tax preparation since the early 1990s. She is an IRS enrolled agent and is currently serving over 75 local companies with bookkeeping and tax services. Having three grown children and eight grandchildren, Gwen is an avid believer in the importance of providing quality education for our youth and a staunch supporter of the project-based curriculum offered at The Willow School.

Kirby Kenney

Kirby Kenney moved to Vero Beach, Florida from Montana where he worked in the construction industry for more than 25 years. He opened a construction law practice in Vero Beach in 2002. He is a graduate of the University of Montana and received his law degree from University of Puget Sound, Washington in 1987. Kirby has had two children attend The Willow School and serves as our counsel on all legal issues.

Helen Jessup Murray

Our newest board member, Helen Jessup Murray, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Helen's work with The Willow School reflects her lifetime passion for quality in education. Having raised her two daughters, now successful young adults, Helen realizes the effectiveness of The Willow School’s experiential teaching style and works tirelessly as our community advocate.
